Business Rates
Business rates is payable by businesses and others who use or own non-domestic properties in order to make a contribution to the cost of local services. The Government collects this money into a 'pool' which is then distributed to local councils, depending on the number of people living in the area.
The money the council receives helps to pay for the many services the council provides such as schools, roads, libraries, meals in the home, and rubbish collection, as well as the police, fire service and many other local services.
The Business Rates Guides which are sent out with the bills, provide information about the 2008/2009 budget, how to pay your Business Rates and various reductions available.
