How Trafford tourism can support your business
Tourism Britain’s fifth largest "industry". Taking into account the overall contribution of tourism - indirect employment and economic benefit - tourism is worth £114 billion is responsible for 2.65 million jobs and represents 8.2% of GDP (The economic case for the visitor economy. Deloitte September 2008).
In 2009, STEAM, the annual economic impact monitor carried out on behalf of Trafford Council, estimated the value of tourism to the local economy at around £378 million supporting around 5,539 jobs. As well as the direct benefits, tourism helps to conserve much of England's heritage and environment.
It's important to remember tourism is not just about staying in hotels and visiting attractions, its also about eating and drinking, shopping, transport, business, visiting friends and relatives, and events. Sport in particular plays a significant part in Trafford's offer.
The tourism unit in Trafford works in partnership with other council services, local tourism businesses, and agencies including Visit Manchester - the Greater Manchester Tourist Board to develop the tourism product in the Borough.
The Tourism Officer represents the interests of the tourism sector at the Trafford Economic Alliance which in turn feeds in to Trafford’s Local Strategic Partnership. If you would like to get involved with raising the profile of tourism in Trafford please contact the Tourism officer.
The tourism unit produces a newsletter on an ad-hoc basis which is (e)mailed to a mailing list of around 400 tourism related businesses. The newsletter keeps businesses up to date with tourism related opportunities and news. It's your newsletter and the unit welcomes contributions from Trafford businesses.
We are always looking for new ways to work with tourism partners and would be delighted to hear from you at any time.
