Councillor Mrs Jane Baugh
Councillor Mrs Jane Baugh is a Labour Councillor for Priory ward and has been a Councillor for twenty one years. She is married to Peter they have three sons, and three grandchildren.
Jane was born in Haddington near Edinburgh and was brought up in Rhiwbina, near Cardiff. She attended Whitchurch Grammar School and met Peter when he was at Cardiff University.
Jane and Peter were married in Trenton, New Jersey, USA and lived for a couple of years in New Orleans where Peter was studying for his Post Doctorate and Jane worked at the Touro Infirmary.
Jane and Peter have lived in Trafford for forty three years and Jane is employed in the NHS as a Chartered Physiotherapist at Altrincham General Hospital, she has worked there as a part time Physiotherapist since 1987.
Jane is now a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, but spent many years as a Neuro-physiotherapist hence the choice of her charities for her Mayoral year.
In her Council role, Jane was Opposition Spokesperson for Environmental issues with a keen interest in green issues, parks, arts, theatre, sport, libraries and youth.
She also has a great interest in Education, was a member of the Education Committee and more recently the Education Scrutiny Committee and was a previous Chair of Trafford College Board and more recently a member of the board. Jane is also a Governor at Moorlands Junior School.
She is Vice-Chair of Sale Festival and a Member of Friends of Walkden Gardens, Worthington Park and Sale Bridgewater Canal; and very proud to be President of Sale Brass Band.
Jane was the Parliamentary Labour Candidate for Altrincham and Sale West in the general elections of 1997 and 2001.
Jane and her husband Peter love to spend any spare time with their family and enjoy travelling. Jane particularly enjoys working with voluntary groups, is a “fair weather” cyclist, loves gardening, she has a “good sized“ vegetable plot, and enjoys cooking for family and friends, walking, reading and music and theatre.
Jane and Peter particularly enjoy our local theatres, The Garrick, The Club Theatre, The Cinnamon Club and the Sale Waterside Arts Centre for its diverse Arts programme.
The chosen charities to be supported this year by the Mayor and Consort are the Trafford branches of the Stroke Association / Parkinson’s UK and the Altrincham Hospital League of Friends.
