Careers in childcare
We provide information about working in a variety of childcare settings. You can also get information on the kind of qualifications you may need, such as:
- NVQ in Children's Care, Learning & Development (Level 2, 3 or 4)
- NVQ in Playwork (Level 2 or 3)

For free careers advice, you can call the Careers Advice Service and speak to a qualified careers coach on 08080 100 333, between 8am - 10pm seven days a week.
You may wish to look at the Council Vacancies section of our website.
You can also contact Jobcentre Plus who can advise you about local job vacancies on 0845 6060 234 between 8am - 6pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am - 1.00pm on Saturdays.
Alternatively, you can search for jobs online.
Setting up your own childcare business
If you are interested in opening your own day nursery, pre-school playgroup, before and after school club, holiday playscheme, or becoming a childminder in Trafford, you will need to attend a briefing session.
At these briefing sessions you will learn more about what is involved including how to register with Ofsted. You will also be able to meet with the members of the Early Years team including Lead Childcare Advisors and the Business Consultant who can offer support and guidance to you.
