What is the Unitary Development Plan?
The Unitary Development Plan is the document that sets out the Council's Policies and Proposals for how land is to be used and developed in the Trafford area over the next 15 to 20 years.
The UDP seeks to ensure that:
- There is enough land available to build the new homes that are needed
- There is enough land available to attract new businesses needed to provide employment for local people
- The right environment is created to enhance business efficiency, competitiveness and job creation.
- The transport system is improved to provide a greater choice in the way people and freight can move around
- Local communities are provided with a range of good quality open space, leisure, recreation and other community facilities
- Valuable countryside areas are protected from development
The UDP is important because:
- It gives developers and local people a clear idea of the types and amount of development that will or will not be acceptable in particulars parts of the Borough for the foreseeable future
- It provides the framework within which the Council makes its decisions on the many planning applications that are submitted for consideration each year
