Audio-Visual Loan Service

DVDs

DVDs are loaned for a period of one week at a charge of £2.00 per item. If they are returned late they will incur further hire charges, on a weekly basis, from the first day overdue.

Library members under 18 years can borrow items suitable to their age only (required by law – Video Recording Act 1984)

DVD loans are available at 50% of the current full rate to library members with a declared disability.

Customers may self-declare under the terms of the Disability Discrimination Act, 1995. The DDA defines this as a ‘physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities’.

Library members under 13 years need parental/carer permission to hire AV material.

Audio books

Audio books are loaned for a period of three weeks and are free for all borrowers. If they are returned late, they will incur fine of 10p per day.

Available at Altrincham and Urmston Libraries

Exhibitions & Displays

There is no charge for holding an exhibition but charges will be levied for:

  • Rental of space of 50 sq m and more (Urmston only) : £50 per week/part of week
  • Rental of space under 50 sq m : £25 per week/part of week
  • Public liability insurance: £10 per week

Display of posters/notices (charge per week)

  • A5: 30p

Fax Service

Library Book Sales

Library Request Service

All requests are free of charge providing the item is in stock/on order at any Trafford library at the time the request is made.

Requests for items not in stock, items not yet published and items from other library authorities £3.50 per request.

All items requested from the British Library, including photocopies are £5 (plus the standard not in stock charge).

Items requested from abroad are £5 (plus the standard not in stock price).

Lost and Damaged Stock

The full replacement cost will be charged for all lost /damaged items.

The charge for an item borrowed from the British Library and then lost is £142.20. This rate is set by the British Library.

Musical Scores and Playsets

Hire by local societies (per set):

  • 1 to 40 copies: £25
  • 41 to 80 copies: £30
  • 81 to 120 copies: £35
  • Over 120 copies: £40
  • Orchestral sets: £10

A deposit will not be required, but non return of part(s) of a set will mean no further loans until the society pays the full replacement cost charged by the lending authority.

Overdue Books

10p per day per book to a maximum of £12 per book. Children (under 16) and customers who are disabled are exempt from this charge.

Photocopying

Photocopying/printing charges are now:

  • Black per A4 sheet: 10p
  • Black per A3 sheet: 15p
  • Colour per A4 sheet: 50p
  • Colour per A3 sheet: £1
  • Scanning: 10p

Public access computers

Sessions are free for the first half hour, 50p per half hour (or part of half hour) thereafter. 

Replacement Library Card

  • Adults: £2.00
  • Free for the first replacement card for under 16s, £1 for any subsequent card

Toys

Available at: Altrincham, Coppice Avenue, Davyhulme and Lostock Libraries

A range of toys for 0 to 14 year olds are available to hire. Up to three toys may be borrowed on an adult or childminder's ticket for a period of 3 weeks.
Loan of one toy: 50p.

Suspension of membership

Library members will be suspended if the maximum fines total is reached or there is failure to return items on loan despite reminders sent. If suspended, members will not be able to borrow library material or use the computers until measures have been taken to remove the suspension. It is advisable to discuss this with the Library Manager.

Please note: It is important that you retain your till receipt as no corrections or refunds for monies paid will be made without production of till receipt within 21 days.
