About Highway Maintenance
The Council undertakes an annual programme of Highway Structural Maintenance and Carriageway Resurfacing works throughout the Borough.
The works may include replacing existing kerbs and planning off and resurfacing existing roads and footways. In some instances only the road may need to be planed and resurfaced and minor repairs or preventative works such as slurry sealing carried out on the footways. In other instances only the footway will need treatment.
Schemes are identified for the annual programme based on a priority ranking system. The priorities are obtained from nationally agreed surveys using “scanner” technology and detailed visual inspections carried out by our team of Engineers and Inspectors. Roads identified by local residents and Elected Members are also inspected and will be included as priority schemes where appropriate.
The list of schemes shown are those which we have agreed should be carried out between April 2010 and March 2011. The extent and dates of the works are only indicative at this stage. We will send out, immediately prior to the works being carried out, individual letters to all householders and businesses directly affected by the works, identifying the full extent and actual start date of the works.
