the 70’s costumes and popstars. An Iguana is

years. Previously run by his father and

Brown’s sells everything from soft

making goods. There’s even horse hair canvas
and a self-threading needle for sewing!

the oldest stall on Altrincham Market still to
be run by the same family. Stall is a misnomer
in fact as stock levels mean Chadwick’s
operate a number of stalls stocking a range of

be difficult to find elsewhere. You can also
buy men’s socks, gloves, hats and housework
tabards.

expand and has opened branches in Wilmslow &

and stems like dogswood and pussy willow for
drama and impact. Karen has worked for Leon
for 11 years and is a trained florist who
creates the highly regarded flower displays
for a wide range of events including weddings,
funerals and birthdays. The quality of the
flowers is outstanding which is reflected in
the number of demonstrators who choose to buy
their plants from this stall. |

the cards with her sister who ran a stall on
Stockport market allowed them better bulk

Ashton Market in the 40s and 50s so Keith
grew up living and breathing plants. Sadly
when Keith’s dad died the family nursery which was
sold, however Keith kept his hand in growing
plants and started to sell them at Altrincham
Market in the mid 90s. In 1996 Keith set up
his own nursery which you can find just down
the road on Clay Lane in Timperley but still
comes to trade on the market once a week.
Keith stocks hardy shrubs, herbaceous
perennials, alpines, trees, bedding plants,
hedging plants, specimen shrubs, topiary box
and
herbs. If pushed Keith might admit to being
partial to an alpine! |

grandfather started the fish stall at Altrincham
Market 65 years ago and it has been
run by the Taylor family's ever since. Emerson
started out work in the families fishmongers
in Atherton and built up his knowledge of the
trade on the job. He started working in Altrincham full time about 18 years ago. His
favourite part of working on the market is the
relationship that is built up with clients, He
was
whilst we were talking to Emerson was serving
customers whose orders he could anticipate
before they’d even spoken! Taylor’s are also
able to supply fish to order.
The stall stocks an extensive range of fish,
in addition to the usual cod and plaice you
will usually find mackerel, lemon sole, hake
sea bream, monkfish, seabass, Arbroath smokies,
manx kippers, whiting, rainbow trout, salmon
(whole & fillets), tuna, mussels and oysters. |

Greene has been trading on Altrincham Market
for more than 30 years. When Winnie decided to
take a stall at Altrincham she was courting
her husband who already traded bags having
chosen bags as it was the only wholesaler he
knew. Winnie & Eric now work on the stall
together and stock hundreds of bags of all
types offering an amazing choice at great
prices. All this choice however means a 4.30
am alarm call for this couple to allow them to
set up stall for a 9am start!
The range of handbags has something to appeal
to all ages, the most fashionable bags of the
moment are those by the LYDC (London Young
Design Company). Other well known brands
include; Adidas, Cat, Head, Jeep, Nike with
luggage brands Aerolite and Waypoint.
You can also get your hands on; bum bags,
holdalls, shopping trolleys, briefcases, back
packs, school bags, suit carriers and luggage
straps.
