Taxi drivers licence
New driver application update
In September 2015 the Licensing Public Protection Committee made the decision to remove the requirement for new driver applicants to take a written knowledge test.
This will be replaced by a more intensive presentation / induction course which all new applicants will be required to attend.
The course is likely to cover a variety of topics relevant to Private Hire and Hackney drivers including Licensing Conditions and Legislation, Customer Care, Disability Awareness and Sexual Exploitation
There still remains a requirement for all applicants to provide evidence they hold an educational qualification and are able to communicate in English. The minimum requirement is ESOL Entry 2 in English and Mathematics but we have now extended the scope and would accept NVQs, O Levels, A Levels, CSEs, Degrees or equivalent certificates in various subjects.
As a result of this decision the Licensing Team is now designing the new processes. Please do not contact the Licensing Office at this stage as we are unable to give you a date when we will start accepting applications. Any agreed dates will be provided on this page.
