Social Services Records
We keep records to note each person's needs and to record action taken to meet those needs. If a different member of staff gets involved, the information recorded can help to keep them in the picture.
The information recorded also helps us to plan for the future because it shows which services people are, or are not, using.
Under the Data Protection Act 1998 you, or your representative, are given the right to see most records processed by or on behalf of the Council containing personal information about you. You will be required to provide proof of identity.
There are exceptions to the information you can access, such as mental health records and records involving social care services where other laws limit access to personal data. If you provide information in confidence about another individual your personal details will not be disclosed unless the Council obtains your permission (there are exceptions to this such as court orders and the protection of the public).
