Post-adoption support
Once you have adopted, support for you and your child is still available. We also offer support to birth relatives of children who are adopted or adults who have been adopted.
We offer information, advice and support on the following topics:
Support for adopters
- Adoption support group. This meets three times a year and is open to all Trafford adopters
- Groups for children of all aged (service commissioned by Trafford and provided by the voluntary organisation After Adoption). Groups meet every school holiday and involve age appropriate play activities
- Helpline provided by After Adoption
- Letterbox scheme for indirect contact arrangement between children who have adopted, their adoptive parents and birth parents/other birth relatives
- Post adoption training
- Advice/guidance to any affected by adoption
- Therapeutic intervention where appropriate
- "Parent link" scheme to link adopters who want specific help or support with other experienced adopters
Support for birth relatives
- The adoption contact register
- Helpline provided by After Adoption
- Letterbox scheme for indirect contact arrangement between children who have adopted, their adoptive parents and birth parents/other birth relatives.
- Advice/guidance to any affected by adoption.
- Intermediary services for birth relatives.
Support for adopted people
- Access to information - getting more information about my past
- Finding siblings
- Tracing my birth family
- The adoption contact register

- Provision of counseling under schedule II of the Adoption and Children's Act 2002 for adults who wish to obtain their original birth records.
- Access to adoption case records.
- Intermediary services for birth relatives.
- Advice/guidance to any affected by adoption.
Obtaining additional help
In addition to the support we provide, we also have a contract with Manchester After Adoption.
This is an independent agency offering services to all parties involved in adoption. They can provide advice, information, counselling and support and can be contacted on 0800 0568 578.
