Workstep
What is Workstep?
Workstep provides job support to disabled people who face more complex barriers to keeping their job, but who can work well with the right support. It enables eligible disabled people to realise their full potential to work, giving them, whenever possible, an opportunity to progress into unsupported employment. Workstep also offers practical assistance to employers.
Disabled people on Workstep are paid the same wage as their non-disabled colleagues doing the same or similar work.

Trafford Council Workstep Programme
Trafford Council runs a Workstep programme, which helps disabled people start work within the Council or helps council employees who become disabled to stay in their job (if they meet the Workstep programme criteria).
Each Workstep employee has an assessment of their abilities and needs. A development plan for improving their work skills, and experience is agreed. Each Workstep employee receives a personal review of their progress at least every six months (this can be more often if required) by the Employee Initiatives Advisor. Help with obtaining specialist equipment or support arrangements is given.
If a Workstep employee is happy to move off the programme, they continued to be reviewed over the six months following their unsupported employment. If, later on, their circumstances change and they need to return to Workstep for support, this can be done with Jobcentre Plus approval.
