What is anti-social behaviour?

Anti-social behaviour is conduct within communities or public places that may have a negative impact on other people. It covers a wide range of behaviour - which is carried out by individuals and groups - and may also include some criminal offences.

What type of behaviour is involved?

There are many different examples of anti-social behaviour but it is the potential impact of the behaviour on others, rather than the act itself, which makes it anti-social.

What action can be taken?

The Safer Trafford Partnership is made up of many different agencies, including Trafford Council, Greater Manchester Police and Social Housing Landlords, that have different responsibilities and powers for preventing and tackling anti-social behaviour.

In many instances anti-social behaviour can be prevented by effective early intervention. In some cases, involving serious or persistent anti-social behaviour, statutory powers are available to provide protection for victims and witnesses and communities.

Who to contact

You can report anti-social behaviour by:

Contacting the Anti-Social Behaviour Helpline on 0161 912 2400 - a 24-hour voicemail service to report or request advice about anti-social behaviour.

Contacting Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050 - to report a non-emergency incident or make a general enquiry. In an emergency you should dial 999. It's an emergency if a crime is being committed or has just been witnessed, there is a risk of injury, or a risk of serious damage to property.

Contacting the Traffordwatch Patrol service on 0161 912 1111 - to request a community safety patrol in streets or parks or other public places up to 10pm. Please note that this is not an emergency response service and patrols are subject to availability up to 10pm.
