as you may be aware wellington school hav tried to replace their grass play area with an all weather surface but have been refused permission by trafford mbc This has now been appealed. There are a number of reasons why the school wants this building:
1. safety....currently the kids have to walk to timperley sports club crossing a very busy a56
2. hockey can only be played on a synthetic surface.
3. 25minutes of a 1 hour lesson are lost walking to timperley sports club
4. The field that will be changed to an all weather surface is already a playing field but becomes very water-logged and unplayable when it rains. The water table is very high in the area.
5.The synthetic pitch will be used exclusively by the pupils.
6. the pitch will not be 'let' to external users.
7. no floodlights are in the application.

So, to summarise what a riduculous refusal by trafford mbc!!!! The poor kids of wellington!!! All thats happening is a soggy pitch being replaced by a synthetic one!!!! How can that be turned down????

If you wish to help the appeal please email the case officer involved (john pingstone) at teamp13@pins.gsi.gov.uk All support is appreciated
Thank-you

Hello,

Something good is happening in Stretford this weekend. It is just a few days now until the Longford Park Centenary weekend commences and you can now see the full programme of events at http://lp100.org.uk.

The Longford Park Centenary Weekend will be a family friendly event that attempts to offer something to everyone in the community.

As well as music, dance and theatre there will be lots of sports and recreational activities to enjoy for the whole family.

It is also worth mentioning that an exhibition at the Longfords Suite will explore the rich history of Longford Park and that over 40 stall holders and 13 Caterers are so far confirmed for the centenary weekend.

Please let your friends and neighbours know about this hopefully very enjoyable community event.

Finally, the conversion work for the Edwardian Bungalow to be turned into a Community Cafe has now been completed. This is a very welcome development and Trafford MBC will appoint a permanent operator to run the community cafe by June 2012. If you would like to find out more then the Edwardian Bungalow Building will open both days of the Longford Park Centenary Weekend (12-13th May) between 11am and 5pm for the sale of hot drinks and snacks.

Regards From all The Friends of Longford Park and Longford Park Centenary Weekend Committee.
