Default Stretford Tip

I went to the tip on Sunday with my broken television and they weren't accepting televisions that day (!) How do I find out when they will be accepting televisons without actually driving there every day? (I've phoned but there is no answer)

Post Your question on here and wait a week then post again and wait another week and just keep on doing it, at least it is cheaper than driving there.

I went today with my old tele and they took it with open arms. I've been going to the tip quite a lot recently and everytime I go you can gurantee at least 5 staff in hi vis jackets standing around drinking a cup of tea. Why are there so many of them surely 3 workers would suffice?

Also, why is there no facility to recycle plastics in Trafford? Our family of 4 generates about 1 black bin bag full of plastics each week (and thats without buying products that have unncessary packaging).... I collect them and take them to a plastics recycling facility in Manchester.

I undertsand from the hi vis jacketted tea drinking men at Stretford Tip that Trafford have no means to process/recycle plastics. He also said he is a resident of Salford and they do! Doesn't make much sense to have 2 neighbouring boroughs that supposedly to have provision while Trafford doesn't.

Trafford Council, please can you tell me why this is. Why not have provision to recycle plastics. You could even use that gross Grade II listed cinema as a collection point for plastics. At leat everyone would know where to bring them! Please answer my question.

Hi waveley,

I have friends who live in Manchester and although their home recycling collection is pretty good, the city council don't collect plastics either.

I take mine to Tesco in Baguley, which is nearly in Trafford!

You won't get an answer from the council on here. You are probably best to email them directly. I seem to remember sending emails to recycling@trafford.gov.uk in the past, although don't recall a high success rate with replies!

Exclamation Pass round the happy pills.

I went to Stretford tip last Friday with a dead TV and two dead monitors. No problem getting rid of the stuff but the workforce there are a miserable bunch.

"Where do I put the TV and monitors?" I politely asked.

"Ugh." Followed by a pointing motion in some random direction.

Happy bunch ain't they?

Ok have received this reply from Trafford regarding recycling of plastics:

"There are approx 5 sites which have recycling facilities for plastic drinks bottles,
the nearest to you is likely to be B& Q on redycliffe Road or the Little B public House on Marsland Road Sale

The sites are identified on our web page

We are currently investigating the potential of introducing the collection of plastic bottles as part of our kerbside collections"

I'm going to go along and check them out... keep you posted.

Aragon - say hi to the "Happy Bunch" for me when you next see them!

Before you go, check out this part of their website:
www.trafford.gov.uk/mytrafford/recycling.asp

You can enter your postcode to show you your nearest recycling centres, and if you click on 'Plastic' it will just show you the ones that accept plastic.

I hope that helps.
