I heard an emergency vehicle going down Deansgate Lane; but by the time I got to the window to look for it, it had gone.

The road was blocked off at the tramstop end. At least four police cars in attendance, one of them an unmarked BMW all down near the Deansgate Lane end. I think two ambulances turned up as well. At least they were rushing down Manchester Road as I was passing in the opposite direction.

Yep, police car went roaring down Deansgate Lane while I was in the kitchen

Looks like a car went into the canal

Fair play to the emergency services for prompt attendance and action and to whoever raised the alarm in the first place

Very dramatic - sounds like a close shave.

How the hell do you end up in the canal? There are barriers at the bottom of Deansgate lane and you'd have to mount a kerb elsewhere?

Not sure whether there will be any further investigations into the accident but where had this "brick" in the road come from and why had no one else hit it and to lose control and go into the canal was the vehicle travelling at speed, especially hard to gauge when there's not much of a stretch of road with which to gather speed.

Ultimately will any precautions be carried out along Canal Road to stop it happening again and at least the passengers and driver appear to be well enough to move on from their experience

I have wrote to Trafford a couple of times expressing my concerns about barrier protection along canal road, never got a response, lighting on this part of the needs improving.
Not sure about the 'brick', it would have to be a pretty big one, I read that it was a hire car, powerful and speed and miss judgement, clipping the kerb could be possible to?
Thankgod our emergency services were fast on the scene, and the family involved are recovering well.
