All,
It's good to see the Navigation Road park getting a much needed make-over, but I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not Stamford Park in Altrincham was also going to get a much needed refurbishment? I've looked at the planning website and there seems to be an application for a flag pole!!! I'm also certain I've seen one for a few skateboard ramps near to the play area. In general though, I feel as if the whole park needs a well deserved make-over and refurbishment - new pathways, new planting, a draining/cleaning of the pond etc.... I've looked on the 'Friends of Stamford Park' website and there doesn't appear to be much activity. I guess I was hoping that after Navigation Road, that Stamford Park would be next on the Council's list. Thanks |

I could be wrong but I guess Trafford are reluctant to spend money on parks that are attracting "wrong uns" and the media have cetainly reported plenty of problems in and around Stamford Park.
That said it could do with sprucing up, but I think a large part of the finance for the work on Navi Rec came from United Utilities in return for being able to build their retention tank in the park. There may not be the same money available for such large scale changes to other parks without money from elsewhere. Perhaps the removal of park keepers and parks being open after dark is a false economy in terms of the vandalism and debris/litter left in them from anti-social behaviour. It would appear that most of the parks are to have a flagpole ! |
