Default Potholes - Get the problem addressed

There was an article on BBC Breakfast recently about the increase in potholes due to the inclement weather and also failures of local authorities to do more to fix/address the problem before a small hole becomes a road closing or log-jam causing issue.

The inference from the article and from interviews with the relevant officers from a couple of local councils, was that they would be spending more on repairs in the coming months but that they relied on local residents reporting problems, in order to target which areas to investigate and take action.

I know Trafford have an ongoing program of road/pavement resurfacing, kerb replacement and streetlight improvement which has planned which streets require immediate attention.

However,I would urge local residents to use the Online reporting facility (http://crm.trafford.gov.uk/signal(bD...loc_search.htm to report any streets near them which require action rather than waiting on the off-chance that the council might take action.

Not sure whether it'll get the problem addressed but it might give a better picture of how many problem roads there are, in terms of planning futurte schemes and resources

It's not just the weather. It's the companies that surface the road after roadworks. There's a spot on Clay Lane going towards the Airport where there was a huge pot hole that had been filled in before christmas. Now it's there again.

Clearly the work to surface the road was not carried out correctly, and I bet Trafford still paid for it.

Councils need to stop paying companies who do shoddy work, that will really help to fix the problem.

That whole area is a nightmare, given the replacement of the gas main on Wood Lane and Clay Lane plus the constantly deteriorating surface on Whitecarr Lane

Unfortunately Brooklands Road falls between 2 councils and I'd be surprised if Manchester were prepared to do anything at their end, given that the Brooklands ward that falls into Manchester Council is no longer a Tory thorn in their side.

So I need to invest in some Monster Truck tyres for my mini then?

Trafford may well have paid for it (if it was due to utility works the utility company will have paid) - but every contract I know has at least a 12-month defects period on it.
So report it to Trafford and it should be repaired at the contractor's cost.

Re Pot holes. Seems to me that instead of using all that tarmac to put humps up and down the roads within the Borough they should of used the tarmac to fill the pot holes, I'm no expert just , curious What is more important? and who prioritizes? You tell me.

I would quite like a few more potholes in our road to slow the cars down

I think Deansgate Lane between the Gardeners and the junction with Brook Lane is shaping up quite well. There are a number of large cracks in the road surface that will become potholes sooner rather than later and a couple of areas where pipes/cables have been dug up and the holes not properly repaired.

Given the nature of the street and the surrounding ones, the amount of on-street parking also increases and concentrates traffic flow on certain sections of the road which increases the problem.

Many of the local roads in the area are used as "cut throughs" or were simply not built to carry the volume of traffic they are now seeing
