Default Must be about money.

I see the CEO is doing a runner to Surrey County Council.

Why?

Bigger wedge?

Why do we need a CEO?

If he's leaving for more money then good for him. Why do they need a CEO? Headless chickens don't run in straight lines.

Why do we need a CEO? Is that a serious question? You could argue that you don't need any of them apart from the bin men and the street sweepers, but that'd be kind of dumb. Management structures are a necessary part of any organisation, which is why every organisation has one.

In the last twelve months their Corporate Director and Social Services Directors have also jumped ship. Sounds like something is a foot at the council...

Susan Williams will also be leaving to try to hoodwink the residents of Bolton that they want a Tory representing them in Westminster at the next general election.

It is standard practise for them to jump ship when they know that something is in the wind and likely to come out that will either embarrass or implicate them. They usually leave well in advance hoping that because they are no longer there they will not be in the headlines.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the pending court case over fraud allegations.

The two aren't remotely related as he wasn't even at Trafford at that time.

Default Fraud Trial

I think you're probably right about there being no connection with Mr Mc and the up-coming fraud trial. Nevertheless, it could still be an embarrassing issue to deal with, and who knows how many other skeletons are lurking in the cupboards of Trafford!

I don't get why the most powerful and highest paid position in the borough, is not an elected position.

It's bad enough that the council leadership are elected in my opinion. The CEO leads the council's operational side. If that role were politicised then it will simply become another ridiculous local political pawn in a wider political game.

A CEO can have an opinion (to an extent) without having to tow the party line and suck-up to the people who he needs to vote him in.

In my opinion it's fairly important that just as the bin men aren't elected their manager's manager's manager isn't elected either.

I'd disagree that it's the most powerful position in the borough. That is/was held by Susan Williams. It's the politicians who define policy.
