As part of the Government's attempts to reduce the national budget deficit, the Ministry of Defence have drawn up plans to disband a number of regiments. The 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers are proposed to be disbanded by 2014.

The Regiment, who are based in Bury, have served in Northern Ireland, Kosovo / Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan and are currently training for deployment to Afghanistan in 2013.
