Ronald Gow (1897 - 1993) Ronald Gow was a widely known dramatist and was amongst the first intake of students at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. His best-known play was his dramatisation of 'Love on the Dole' by Walter Greenwood. Barclays Bank, Stamford New Road, Altrincham 1995
Market Site (1879) The new market hall was renovated in 1990 as part of the Altrincham Charter (1190) celebrations. The plaque commemorates the fact that a market has been held on the site since 1879. Market Hall, Altrincham 1991

Robert Bolt (1924-1995) Robert Bolt was born in Sale, Cheshire on the 15th August 1924. His first play was performed in London in 1958 and soon after this he established a reputation for himself with ‘A Man for All Seasons’ which won the New York Drama Critics Award in 1962 and was made into an Academy Award winning film in 1966. Robert Bolt won an Oscar for the screenplay. As a screenwriter his credits include Dr. Zhivago for which he also won an Oscar, Lawrence of Arabia and Ryan’s Daughter. Dame Isobel Baille (1895-1983) Dame Isobel Baille made her debut with the Halle Orchestra in 1921 and by the 1930s was a world wide performer. Superintendent James Bent (1848-1901) James Bent was a policeman. He was responsible for setting up a soup kitchen in Old Trafford, Stretford. James Gibson (1877-1951) James Gibson was a businessman who was responsible for saving Manchester United from financial ruin in the 1930s. The plaque is a red plaque rather than blue with the Trafford coat of arms. Old Trafford Bridge, Stretford 26 October 2000
L.S Lowry (1887-1976) Lowry was an internationally acclaimed artist. He was born at 8 Barrett Street in Stretford on the 1st November 1887. Barrett Street ran north westwards from Cross Street to Hullard Street. Old Trafford Community Centre. 2001
John Rylands (1801-1888) and Enriqueta Rylands (1843-1908) John Rylands was a entrepreneur and philanthropist. He was the first multi millionaire in Manchester and responsible for the building of Stretford Public Hall and Longford Hall. Enriqueta Rylands founded the John Rylands library in Manchester. Duncan Edwards (1936-1958) Duncan Edwards was a Manchester United and England footballer. During his career he lived in Stretford. Tommy Taylor (1932-1958) Tommy Taylor was a Manchester United and England footballer. During his career he lived in Stretford. He was one of the eight Busby Babes who lost their lives in the Munich Air Disaster in 1958. Bottoms Footpath (1826) The stopping of the footpath by Squire Wright resulted in a court action instituted and funded by the people of Flixton in 1826 . This court case was of great historic significance and provided the catalyst for the formation of the Manchester Association for the Preservation of Ancient Footpaths’. The footpath ran from Flixton Church and connected with other subsidiary paths to Shawe Hall. The plaque was sited on the wall of Flixton Station but it was unfortunately lost when the building was destroyed by fire in 1997. Flixton Station 1992
Professor Tom Kilburn (1921-1971) Tom Kilburn was an engineer who created the world's first electronically stored computer programme. Carlton Crescent, Urmston 2002
