About Longford Park

Longford Park is the largest municipal park in the borough covering approximately 22 hectares. The park is located in the Stretford Area of Trafford.

The park hosts many events during the year, including the annual Stretford Pageant which has been held since 1919. The vision for the future development of the park centres on its role as a diverse leisure facility for both local and community use and those from within the wider catchment area who use the park for both formal and informal recreation.

History

Longford Park's current layout dates back to 1857 when Longford Hall and its associated grounds were constructed and laid out by John Rylands, the famous cotton merchant and benefactor of many of Stretford's important buildings.

The site became a public park after it was purchased by Stretford Urban District Council in 1911 and then opened in 1912.

The park still contains the historic coach house and stable buildings dating back to when the hall was built. Japanese style gardens set within an overall park landscape laid out in the style of Chatsworth House.
