Altrincham hospital plans move ahead

The proposed redevelopment of Altrincham General Hospital will take a step forward this month when the outline business case is considered by Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust's Board.

The outline business case will contain proposals to re-provide the services currently available at Altrincham General in modern facilities much better suited to the needs and wants of patients today. It would mean much improved access for people with disabilities. Patients would also have more privacy and dignity, as the treatment areas would be designed to the latest healthcare standards.

Local people were able to find out more about the proposals at an informal information session at Altrincham General earlier this month. They were able to chat to members of the project team and ask questions.

Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust Board approval of the outline business case is just the first stage of the proposed redevelopment. It will be considered by the strategic health authority, NHS North West, in September. If NHS North West is happy with it, the Trust will then invite developers to submit detailed proposals and costs for the redevelopment of the site, along with the redevelopment of the former St Anne's hospital site in Bowdon.
