Signed story time at Hale Library

A signed story time at Hale Library was enjoyed by adults and children as part of National Year of Reading's mind and body theme for May and to mark Deaf Awareness Week.

Claire Johnson, from the Genie Project, visited the library with her interpreter Sam Thomas and chairman of Genie Networks Patricia Young, to carry out the interactive session.

Claire uses her 'friend' Molly, the signing puppet, to emphasise the expression of the signs to the children.

Carol Bell, manager of Hale Library, said: "The event was a huge success and tied in really well with the theme for National Year of Reading. Not only did it entertain the audience, it was also educational, giving the children who attended an insight into how a deaf person can communicate."

Genie Networks is a unique Trafford-based charity that supports deaf people of all ages and their families.
