Trafford's new mobile library has taken the best mobile award at the national Mobilemeet, held in Aintree.
The national Mobilemeet is organised by the branch and mobile libraries group of CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) and is recognised as the industry's showcase.
The library underwent vigorous inspection by the judges and delegates to beat off stiff competition from mobile libraries from across the country.
The judges were very impressed with the state of the art vehicle with over 2000 items of stock for all ages, including talking books, DVDs, large print books, quick reads and a toy library on request.
The library makes 42 stops throughout Trafford a week and issues 18,000 items a year.
The fully computerised library offers internet searches, a photocopying service and has housing for three laptops. It is fitted with a hearing loop, CCTV, TV/DVD, PA system and electronic signage together with display space for information and posters. Access is excellent via a built in lift at the entrance with an awning that can be used when attending festivals and promotional days.
Executive Councillor Alex Williams said: "Winning this award is fantastic reward for all the hard work that the staff in libraries and Transport/Translinc have put in making sure that we have put into the vehicle everything that the residents said they would like to have.
"We are sure our customers will appreciate how we are continuing to improve our service and that they will enjoy this much welcomed mobile library."
