New Trafford carers services up and running
25 September 2009
Two crucial new services being funded by Trafford Council as part of its continuing support for local carers, are now about to start in Trafford.
The local branch of The Stroke Association is providing a dedicated, individualised family support service. This will give carers and people who have survived a stroke advice and support to help them remain independent and in control of their lives.
The Trafford branch of The Alzheimer's Society is using its Council funding to provide new services for carers and adults living with Alzheimer's and dementia. Essential emotional support and advice will be available to the growing number of families affected by these debilitating conditions.
Both services are working alongside Trafford Carers Centre's carers individualised budgets scheme. The scheme will support carers who receive funding to allow them to select and purchase services they prefer from a list of approved providers and organisations.
Executive Councillor Michael Young said: "The Council is committed to supporting local carers. They care for a relative or friend because they want to do their best for them, often putting their own lives on hold and missing out on things.
"Carers save the country millions of pounds a year, although their efforts are often unseen and unrecognised. These two new services will make a real difference to people dealing with the impact of a stroke, Alzheimer's or dementia."
People who think either of these two new services could help them can contact Pat Lee, Secretary at The Alzheimer's Society on 0161 973 1280 or Angela Walkden Northwest Regional Manager at The Stroke Association on 0161 745 8222 for more information.
