School meetings to discuss Academy plans

Trafford Council's Interim Corporate Director of Children and Young People's Service Margaret Woodhouse confirmed Ministerial approval has now been given to begin consulting on the establishment of an Academy.

"Before an Academy is established, the Council would need to first close Lostock College and Stretford High School - from 31 August 2010. The Academy would then open from 1 September 2010 in the two existing schools, with the intention of moving into a new building on the Stretford High School site in September 2013.

We are now undertaking a consultation, so we have the clearest picture of the views and any questions local parents as well as other interested parties have.

The information we gather from meeting specific groups and during school consultation meetings, will help us provide comprehensive information which Trafford Council's Executive will then consider."

Consultation meetings will take place at Lostock College, Selby Road, Stretford next Wednesday 3 February at 7pm and two at Stretford High School, Great Stone Road, Stretford on Wednesday 10 February, at 5.15pm and 7pm.

All responses must be received by Monday, 15 February.

If Trafford Council's Executive decides to proceed with the closure of the two schools there will be a further statutory six week consultation period.
