10 August 2012

The last of the Old Trafford Olympic football matches may have been played, but Broadheath, Dunham, Bowdon and Hale Children's Centres are making sure the Olympic 'spirit' continues.

Each Wednesday until the end of August, the centres are hosting the Toddler Gym Olympics, featuring lots of sporting activities for local babies, toddlers and children from 0-8 years-old. The sessions run from 10am to 11.30am and promise loads of fun for everyone.

Executive Councillor Linda Blackburn said: "The London 2012 Olympics, including the football matches here at Old Trafford, have created a huge buzz and interest in sport and sporting achievement.

"It is important everyone, young and old alike realise what fun sports and outdoor activities can be and the huge health and wellbeing benefits they bring. Getting youngsters interested in sport is one way we can all help our next generation keep fit and healthy.

"These Toddler Gym Olympics sessions gives local families the chance to bring their youngsters along during the school holidays and get involved in a huge range of activities.

"Whether its babies and toddlers enjoying soft play, sensory mats and toys, or older children climbing, using balancing equipment, scooters or space hoppers, each morning promises loads of fun and excitement."

Local parent Gillian Wilcock said: "Toddler gym Olympics has encouraged my child to learn a new skill - hula hooping .It also keeps her active as well as socialising with her friends."

Anyone wanting more information about the Toddler Gym Olympics or any of the other activities and events being held at their local SureStart Children's Centre can call Family Information Services on 0161 912 1053.
