Trafford Council is sending a good luck message to one of the Paralympic torchbearers, local volunteer champion Kath Smedley from Altrincham.
Kath, aged 63, is part of the Act4Africa team taking part in the 24-hour overnight relay which will see the Paralympic Flame carried from Stoke Manderville to the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games on Wednesday, 29 August.
Despite suffering from breast cancer and having to undergo chemotherapy and then surgery for a subsequent brain tumour, Kath's determination continues to be an inspiration to others and has kept the Act4Africa team's focus on helping those less fortunate.
Executive Councillor Jonathan Coupe said: "It is impossible to overemphasise Kath's achievements and the influence and impact her commitment has had on others.
I know she is delighted to be part of the 'Inspirational Women's Team' which has the honour of carrying the Paralympic Torch. I couldn't think of another person who better demonstrates all that is so great about Trafford people or more worthy to represent the borough in this important event."
Cllr Coupe also sent a heartfelt good luck message to all North West based Team GB Paralympic Athletes as they continue their final preparations for what is sure to be a spectacular athletic spectacle.
