Green-fingered Trafford residents have been praised for their hard work looking after allotments.

The results of this year's Trafford Allotment Awards, judged by Trafford Council and the Royal Horticulture Society, are:

Best site in the borough - Marlborough Road Allotments, Urmston (GH Carnall Trophy and £50)
Best site in the borough (runner up) - Laneheads Allotments, Urmston (Shield)
Best individual plot in the borough - Mr A Borthwick, Plot 12, Moss Lane Allotments, Altrincham (Seddon Laughton Trophy)
Best individual plot in the borough (runner up) - Mrs M Burke, Plot 98b/101, Gorse Hill Allotments, Stretford (Shield)
Most improved site in the borough - Moor Nook Allotments, Sale (Borough of Trafford Trophy and £50)
Best flower border in the borough - Mrs S Blain, plot 32, Granville Park, Urmston (Louis Bell Trophy)
Environmental Award - Mr A Singleton, Plot 26, Moor Nook Allotments, Sale (Worthington Wright Challenge Trophy)
Best allotments site in Urmston - The Grove Allotments, Urmston (Certificate)
Best allotments site in Stretford - Urmston Lane Allotments, Stretford (Certificate)
Best allotments site in Altrincham - Woodstock Allotments, Altrincham (Certificate)
Best allotments site in Sale - Walton Road Allotments, Sale (Certificate)

Trophies and certificates were awarded by the Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Mrs Patricia Young, at The Good Life event held at Promenade Park on Trafford Wharfside. The event was a celebration of local plants and produce and recognised the residents who take pride in 'growing their own'.

Executive Councillor Alan Mitchell said: "Well done to all the allotment holders who have won awards this year. This really is a fantastic achievement which celebrates the dedication that residents put into creating and maintaining these wonderful green spaces. I hope that more local people are inspired to get involved in 'growing their own' and supporting local produce."
