Friends of Ashton Park

19 March 2004

Friends of Ashton Park along with the Parks and Countryside Department at Trafford Council organised a tree planting last weekend in Ashton Park.

The work being done is all part of the Trafford in Bloom initiative. About 40 trees were planted that were brought from Trafford Borough Council's tree nursery. A wide variety of species were planted such as Wild Cherry, Field Maple, Ash and Oak.

Jo Owen - Community Parks Officer for the Sale area said " It is hoped that the trees will bring life to the park and improve its appearance. It will be nice for visitors to watch the trees grow through the coming seasons."

The Friends of Ashton Park together with local historian Pat Coulburn are putting on a pictorial display of the history of the park and surrounding district. If you have any old photographs, maps or memories or even a short story of your childhood or events in the park or Ashton on Mersey Village, or you can help in anyway, the Friends of Ashton Park would be very pleased to hear from you. Any material loaned to us will be returned when the exhibition has ended. Please contact Jo Owen on 0161 912 5596 if you would like to get involved.
