Trafford to Bloom at Tatton Flower Show

23 April 2004

Trafford Council confirmed today that it will be pitching the horticultural expertise of its staff against the best in the country at this year's prestigious Royal Horticultural Society's Tatton Park Flower Show.

The decision is bound to give an enormous boost to the significant efforts and commitment being shown to the Borough's entry into this year's RHS North West in Bloom competition.

Lead Member for the Trafford in Bloom entry Councillor Jane Baugh said she was delighted that the fantastic horticultural creativity and design experience, which exists in the Council, is to be exhibited for the first time to such an enormous audience.

"The Tatton Park National Flowerbed competition is recognised as a unique event which showcases the talents of local authorities and local communities. With Tatton Park having already gained a reputation as the premier northern garden show, described as the 'Chelsea of the North' there really couldn't be a more prestigious venue for Trafford to show off its talents.

"As preparations are continuing to put the finishing touches to the Borough's entry, which is based on the theme 'Imperial War Museum North emerging from Trafford's Industrial Past', everyone involved is extremely excited and confident that we will be able to showcase a visually stunning and symbolic flower bed.

"Given our success last year in securing runner up spot in the North West in Bloom competition, our venture into this flower bed competition, together with the commitment, determination and dedication of the many local people, groups and organisations who are already gearing themselves up for this year's judging in July, I am sure we will do well," she said.

The Council's flower bed display with represent the Imperial War Museum North with white, light grey and light blue flowering plants surrounded by a carpet of blue flowering plants.

Trafford in Bloom Coordinator Mark Brazil said: "This is a unique opportunity for our experienced grounds maintenance staff to work closely with our plant supplier on this innovative, challenging design. I am sure the end result will help showcase the amazing skills and expertise of our staff," he said.
