Media City and Quay Point
Planning Guidance Adopted 17 January 2007
Salford City Council and Trafford Council jointly prepared non-statutory planning guidance to guide development in an area of land covering Salford Quays and Trafford Wharfside - referred to as MediaCity:UK.
As part of the aspirations for The Quays and related to the proposal to relocate parts of the BBC to the city, Salford City Council and Trafford Council are seeking to establish MediaCity:UK, with the 14.8ha Quays Point site at its core. The Vision is to create a globally significant new media city capable of competing with similar emerging locations around the world. MediaCity:UK will be a place that is designed to stimulate linkage and exchange ideas; a place where people live, work, play and learn; and a place where new ways of informing, educating and entertaining will be created.
The area covered is bounded by Eccles New Road, Trafford Road, Ordsall Lane, Manchester Ship Canal and Trafford Park Road.
The policies provide clear guidance to stakeholders in the development process - landowners, local businesses and residents, statutory agencies, public sector organisations and private developers. It establishes a set of principles to ensure the appropriate mix of uses and high quality design in new development and will be used by the Local Planning Authorities as a material consideration in determining applications for planning permission and other matters in the MediaCity:UK area.
The MediaCity:UK and Quays Point Planning Guidance was subject to a period of formal public consultation, beginning on Friday 18th August 2006 and ending on Thursday 28th September 2006. The guidance was amended in light of the comments received.
