Special Guardship Orders

A Special Guardianship Order (SGO) is a legal order applied for and granted by the courts that allows you to offer a permanent home to a child without adopting and gives you shared parental responsibility of the child.

What support can I get?

Support to SGO carers in Trafford is provided via our SGO Support Team.

Special guardians, birth parents and/or the child are able to contact the SGO support team for information and advice at any time throughout the duration of the order. The level of support and advice available to them will be assessed on an individual basis.

We appreciate it's a particularly challenging time - we are still available if any SGO carers wish to contact us for support.

You can call us on 0161 912 5050, or email fostering@trafford.gov.uk

If you would like to be added to the mailing list for our SGO bulletin please email alice.taylor@trafford.gov.uk.

SGO support groups

Quarterly SGO support groups are available to Special Guardian Carers. SGO carers within the borough are welcome to attend to share their experiences and offer support.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the support group scheduled for Thursday 4 June has been cancelled.

SGO carers are also entitled to access relevant foster carer training opportunities, and can be signposted to this training if they request it.

If you would like further information regarding the support available from the SGO team, details of our support groups or our SGO policy, please contact us on 0161 912 5050, or email: fostering@trafford.gov.uk
