Urmston town centre consultation

The Urmston Town Centre ‘Road Map’ and Environmental Works are undergoing a period of stakeholder consultation to advise and inform key groups, including local people and businesses, about current and future activities and to gather feedback. The consultation is scheduled to be completed by 19 May 2014.

We would be very grateful if you could take the time to complete the questionnaire, as the findings will help shape the forthcoming Environmental Improvements and set priorities for future work in Urmston Town Centre. All comments made will be analysed and considered when producing the final versions of the proposals.

The proposals will also be on display in Urmston Town Centre as part of the ‘Spring Fayre ’ event in Eden Square on Saturday 10th May. A member of the Economic Growth Team will be at the event to discuss the plans further.

Following the end of the consultation period, the responses will be reviewed and the report will be amended having taken the responses into account. Completed questionnaires, or any other queries, should be directed to:

Urmston Road Map

The Urmston Town Centre Road Map is being produced to provide a single overview of the town centre as a place to visit, shop and work. It identifies current planned activities taking place and will be used as the basis to help set future activities and improvements to the town centre. The Road Map is a not a long term development plan for Urmston town centre, it is rather an initial assessment of the town centre as a guide for further work.

The report includes sections on the following:

Baseline position – including vacancy rates, openings/closures, business rates, and parking;

· SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats) analysis - to provide an assessment of the baseline position for the town centre and the direction of travel required to deliver improvements;

  • Current Activities;
  • Future activities;
  • Funding;
  • Role of Locality Partnership;
  • Governance

Environmental Works:

A key part of the Road Map is the proposed Environmental Improvement Works. Some of the key activities that have been suggested are:

  •   Improving Signage
  •   Tree Planting along Flixton Road

Additional benches and pedestrian signage are used as a visual connection to link Eden Square to Goldenhill Park and give the park a refreshed, smart appearance.

Improved entrance to Goldenhill Park.

Overgrown hedges and shrubs which affect sight lines and light levels to footpaths should be reduced.
