National Libraries Day 2016

National Libraries Day is on Saturday 6 February. We have events at many of our libraries during the week before and on the day.

Tuesday 2 February at Urmston Library

Children's author Jan Abbott will be at Urmston Library at 4pm to talk about her book Through the Mist. This event is suitable for children aged 6 to 10.

Wednesday 3 February at Stretford Library

Special National Libraries Day celebration with Stretford's Graphic Novels group. There will be copies of books by local graphic novel author Adam Cadwell available.

Friday 5 February at Woodsend Library

Special rhymetime for National Libraries Day.

Children's Fancy Dress Book Character Event

Come to the library dressed as your favourite book character on National Libraries Day and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a book token.

Blind date with a book

Altrincham, Hale, Partington and Timperley libraries will be running Blind Date with a Book from National Libraries Day until Valentine's Day. Take a risk and borrow a book with no idea what it is!

Altrincham Library

10.30-11.30am The Butterfly's Adventure

Martin the fuzzy caterpillar’s bag is all packed ready for his biggest adventure yet. Can you help him through the grassy green meadow, across the raging river all in search for his missing wings?

Join us at Altrincham Library for a magical, interactive, fun-filled performance with live music and puppetry for children aged 4+. There will also be a butterfly/ caterpillar-themed craft session following each performance.

2-4pm Emergency Poet

Coppice Avenue Library to consult The Emergency Poet. A mix of the serious, the therapeutic and the theatrical, Emergency Poet offers consultations inside her ambulance and prescribes poems as cures. In the waiting room ,under an attached awning, Nurse Verse dispenses poemcetamols and other poetic pills and treatments from the Cold Comfort Pharmacy. Visit the emergency poet website.

Come along to Hale Library and work with local artist Kate Bufton - Book Transformations - to make a lovely bookart sculpture. The workshop is free and is suitable for beginners. All materials are provided.

Lancashire Hawks and Owls

11am-3pm. Join us for a fascinating day with Lancashire Hawks and Owls. Learn about how birds of prey live in their natural habitat and how Michael and Margaret protect and rehabilitate the birds at their sanctuary. There will also be the opportunity to have your photo taken with an owl or hawk!

Sale Library

Book art workshops

Come along to Sale Library and work with local artist Kate Bufton - Book Transformations to make a lovely bookart sculpture - hedghogs for children and a geometric shape for adults. Both workshops are free and are suitable for beginners. All materials are provided.

2pm Who do you think you are? With Nick Barratt

Join us for what promises to be a fascinating talk by historian and author, Nick Barratt. Nick will be talking about the making and research of the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are?, on which he used to work, along with family history and researching your family tree in general. If you are a budding genealogist, a seasoned family historian or have a general interest in how Who Do You Think You Are? is made, this is the event for you!
