Specialist training on offer for Trafford's retail businesses

Trafford retail businesses can get ahead of the game, thanks to a fully-funded training programme tailored for them, starting later this month. Run by a team of retail and business-to-consumer specialists, the programme has been organised by the Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub.

Targeted at businesses looking to grow and create at least one job in the next six to 12 months, the programme's four sessions will run on 24 January 2017, 7 and 21 February 2017 and 7 March 2017.  In exchange for the opportunity to understand the latest approaches and techniques to ensure they win and keep a loyal customer base, participants just have to commit to attend all four sessions.

The credentials of the team of retail and business-to-consumer specialists running the sessions are second to none and they have first-hand experience of what it means to be an entrepreneur in a challenging and competitive market. They have between them worked for and with major brands such as Virgin, Sainsbury’s, WH Smith Volkswagen, Tesco, BT, O2 and Skipton Building Society. Some have also launched their own multi-million pound retail businesses, starting on a market stall and managed successful restaurants and retail brands.

Designed to motivate, encourage and support, the four, three hour evening sessions will cover: Customer Experience and Retention, Customer Acquisition and Digital Marketing, Growth Strategies and Measurement.

Over the four sessions, those attending will find out how to grow their business by:

  • Understanding the latest research and trends in customer behaviour and learning how to make the most of this to retain and delight customers
  • Exploring how to make use of digital tools and marketing techniques to acquire profitable customers
  • Using retail specific approaches like pop-up shops, EPOS, stock control and flash sales
  • Building strong relationships with partners, staff and communities to position business for growth
  • Developing robust growth strategies and monitoring approaches to increase turnover and margins

Executive Member for Economic Growth, Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr John Reilly said: “Trafford is recognised as having a thriving, retail sector based in and around our individual local town centres. We all know that retail is a fast paced, changing arena where winning and retaining loyal custom is vital to maintaining a successful, thriving business.

This training opportunity for local businesses to benefit from the wealth of experience and knowledge that this group of trainers brings is fantastic and something that shouldn’t be missed. I would encourage any retailers who have not already registered for this programme to do so.”
