Altrincham's Charter status 'on display

Following painstaking restoration work on Altrincham's original 1290 Charter by one of Manchester's foremost conservators, a replica Charter, has been created and takes pride of place on permanent display at Altrincham Town Hall.

Visitors to this historic Charter Market town can now walk over to the town hall and view this exact copy, crafted from the original. This restoration has been made possible thanks to the Council's partnership with the Archives and Heritage Service, which operates across all Greater Manchester libraries.

As well as providing the opportunity for this and future generations to see for themselves the intricate detail within the Charter, it also means the original, created by Hamo De Massey, can be safely stored in properly controlled archive conditions to ensure it survives another 700 hundred years
