A long-serving Trafford MP is among eight people from the borough who were recognised in the Queen's 2018 New Year’s Honours.
Sir Graham Brady, MP for Altrincham and Sale West, has been knighted in recognition of his political and public service. He has represented the constituency since 1997.
Professor Caroline Dive, from Hale, received an OBE for services to Cancer Research. There was also an OBE for Bowdon's Professor Christopher Griffiths, for his services to dermatology and Lou Cordwell, from Sale, for services to the Creative and Digital Economy.
MBEs went to: Mrs Elinor Chohan for services to Interfaith and Community Cohesion in Altrincham; Mr Antony Goodman, also from Altrincham, for services to International Trade and UK Exports; Mr Sean Ryan for services to Refugee Resettlement, Flixton.
Finally, a BEM was awarded to Altrincham's Mrs Janice Moss for voluntary services and fundraising for the Christie Hospital.
The Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Jonathan Coupe, paid tribute to the Trafford people named in the New Year’s Honours list. He said: “We are very proud of our fellow Trafford residents who have been recognised nationally for committing their time to helping make a difference."
Congratulations are also sent from Leader of the Council, Sean Anstee, and the Trafford Honours Working Party.
Twice a year, on the Queen’s Official Birthday and New Year’s Day, lists of those to receive honours are published by the Government. The most common award is the Order of the British Empire, with awards including BEM, MBE, OBE and CBE.
Anyone is eligible for an honour, as long as they have made a contribution to their local community or wider society. People receive honours for achievements such as long term voluntary work, improving life for people less able, innovation and entrepreneurship, displaying moral courage or improving the reputation of their area.
