Changes to your bin collections during the Festive Season

As the festive season approaches, One Trafford are reminding residents that bin collection days will change for two weeks with no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Over the Christmas week, bin collections will remain the same on Monday 24 December (Christmas Eve), however there will be no collections on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. This means residents should present their bins 2 days later than usual.

During New Year’s Week, bin collections will remain the same on Monday 31 December (New Year’s Eve), however there will be no collections on New Year’s Day. This means residents should present their bin one day later than usual.

Bin collections will return to normal from Monday 7 January.

Residents should check their new 2018-2019 bin collection calendar which shows their alternative bin collection days over the festive season. The new calendars were delivered throughout November.

One Trafford are urging residents to get on Santa’s nice list this year by recycling right. To get onto the nice list, residents should recycle all kinds of bottles – plastic drinks bottles, glass bottles, cleaning product bottles and even perfume bottles can be recycled in the black bin.

Most people in Trafford know to use their blue bin for newspapers, magazines and carboard boxes. But residents can also recycle glitter-free wrapping paper, cardboard tubes, Christmas cards and even paper Christmas hats.

Put all your food waste, including plate scrapings and bones, into your compostable bag which then goes into your green bin or caddy. Electronic items like kettles, hairdryers and batteries can be taken to your local Recycling Centre.

Trafford Council’s Executive Member Environment, Air Quality and Climate Change, Cllr Stephen Adshead, said:

We want to help everyone recycle more and better this year, so the One Trafford Partnership will be collecting additional carboard when placed next to your blue bin over the festive season. Additionally, we will be taking real Christmas trees after Christmas Day, but please do make sure support blocks and decorations are removed.

Residents can also leave up to two small bags of non-recyclable rubbish next to their grey bin on the first collection after Christmas. Please note that any extra waste placed to the side of the bin after this first collection will not be removed.

To help further, compostable bags are currently being delivered to all households in Trafford. If you’re in need of some more, please visit your local Trafford library to pick up your free roll.

Any households with additional waste may wish to take it to one of the recycling centres on Chester Road, Stretford or Sinderland Lane, Altrincham. The centres are open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
