Why We Build is a provocative and brilliant examination of what inspires great architecture and how buildings can change your life. Rowan Moore takes us on a personal journey, moving freely across the globe and through history, through works of folly, beauty, spectacle, and subtlety. He looks at nine key areas of experience, the emotions and concepts that underpin the desire to build. After reading Why We Build you will never look at a building in the same way again.
Rowan Moore is an architecture critic. He trained as an architect at Cambridge, but later turned to journalism. He has been editor of the architecture journal Blueprint, and has written for the Evening Standard, The Guardian and The Observer.
