Housing Strategy 2024 - 2029

We are currently drafting our new Housing Strategy, which will identify the key housing priorities for the borough from 2024 to 2029.

An initial consultation was conducted in May 2023, and the findings are being used to shape the new Strategy which will launch in 2024.

Housing Strategy 2018-2023

Our Housing Strategy has been developed to identify the key housing priorities for the borough, and the measures required to deliver them by us and other public and private stakeholders.

A review of the Housing Strategy is completed annually to determine what we have achieved, what is underway, and what we still have left to do. 

The annual statement also includes updates on national and sub-regional housing policy and strategy, along with analysis of the housing market in Trafford.

Homelessness Strategy 2019-2024

Our Homelessness Strategy has been produced to identify the key priorities, and the actions required to deliver them by us and other key stakeholders over the next five years in an effort to end homelessness in the borough. 

A review of the Homelessness Strategy is completed annually to determine what we have achieved, what is underway, and what we still have left to do to achieve the objectives outline within the strategy. 

The annual statement also includes updates on national and sub-regional housing policy and strategy, and an analysis of homelessness in the borough.

Empty Homes Strategy 2019-2024

Our Empty Homes Strategy identifies the key priorities, and actions to be delivered by us and other stakeholders over a 5-year period to bring empty homes back into use across the borough to increase the supply of quality, affordable, homes for our residents.

A review of the strategy is completed annually to determine what we have achieved, what is underway, and what we still have left to do to achieve the objectives outlined within the strategy. 

The annual statement also includes a review of the strategic context of the strategy, an update on the number of empty homes in the borough, and an updated version of the Empty Homes Strategy Action Plan.

Older People’s Housing Strategy 2020-2025

Our Older People’s Housing Strategy aims to deliver an integrated approach to the housing needs of older people within the borough.

The strategy has been produced to identify key priorities and actions to be delivered by the Council and other stakeholders over the next five years to achieve this.

A review of the strategy is completed annually to determine what we have achieved, what is underway, and what we still have left to do to achieve the objectives outlined within the strategy. 

The annual statement also includes updates on national and sub-regional housing policy and strategy, and a statistical update on the boroughs demographics and housing market.

Supported Housing Strategy 2023-2028

Our Supported Housing Strategy 2023-2028 identifies key priorities in relation to supported housing in the borough.

The aim of the Strategy is to deliver an integrated approach to the housing requirements of those with support needs and includes a focus on enabling people with support needs to live as independently as possible within the borough.

A Supported Housing Strategy Action Plan has been developed to detail what steps the Council and stakeholders should take over the next five years to meet the key priorities and overall vision of the Supported Housing Strategy.

Housing Allocations Policy

The Housing Allocation Policy explains the rules, criteria, and procedures that determine how we will nominate households to social and affordable rented Registered Provider properties in the borough. 

Housing Options Service Trafford (HOST), who provide the Council’s homelessness and housing advice service, administer this policy and ensure its implementation.
