Registrars coronavirus information Important information about changes to our services We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely, and following the latest information and advice published by the government. In order to minimise face-to-face contact and group meetings, which will help to prevent the spread of coronavirus, some services will need to be delivered differently. Face coverings Any customer entering the Register office at Sale Town Hall, will need to wear a face covering, in line with the Government's recent instructions. Information for parents registering a new baby in the current environment To book an appointment to register a birth please telephone 0161 912 3026 between 9am - 4pm Monday to Friday. Please do not email the Register Office about appointment availability unless it is an emergency. Birth registrations can proceed in the current lockdown, however please do not attend your appointment if you have any symptoms of COVID-19. Information for bereaved families registering a death in the current environment Emergency legislation has come into effect to allow death registrations to be taken by telephone by the Registrar, so that families do not have to attend the register office to complete a face to face registration. Families can give the certifying doctor their permission to share their contact details with us, so that we can phone them directly to make arrangements for a telephone appointment. Alternatively you can telephone us direct on 0161 912 3026 Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm Marriage Ceremonies and Civil Partnership Formations Wedding and Civil Partnership update Update following the Government announcement on Monday 22nd February 2021 regarding the road map to the easing of restrictions. Current national restrictions remain in place and there are no changes for marriages and civil partnerships in England prior to 29 March. The changes planned are: Step 1 (stage 1) 8th March to 28th March - Legal limit of 6 attendees with exceptional circumstances only. Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies can only proceed in exceptional circumstances, for example if one of the people wishing to marry is seriously ill and not expected to recover, they are receiving debilitating treatment or undergoing life changing surgery. We are currently in the process of contacting couples who are directly affected Step 1 (stage 2): From 29 March – Legal limit of 6 attendees but no longer limited to ‘exceptional circumstances’ Step 2: No earlier than 12 April - Legal limit of 15 attendees (depending on the capacity of the room) Step 3: No earlier than 17 May – Legal limit of 30 attendees (depending on the capacity of the room) Step 4: No earlier than 21 June – No legal limit on attendees The number allowed to attend includes the couple, witnesses and guests. However please be aware these steps are being reviewed regularly by the Government and are subject to change.
