Buy, rent or request access to council property or land
You can find details of properties and land for sale or to let in Trafford in our properties for sale or lease directory.
If there is another property or piece of land not in the directory, make a land or property enquiry, and our team can provide further assistance.
They can help with:
- Purchasing the freehold of property or land
- Leasing of property or land
- Leasing Council-owned land to use exclusively as a garden
- Arranging access to Council land by either a wayleave agreement or easement
- Arranging a viewing of a vacant property

Enquiry fee
There is a non-refundable enquiry fee of £165, which you will need to pay once your application has been approved.
If a more detailed review is required, where we need to consult with other Council Departments before we make a decision, you will need to pay an extra fee of £605. You will be advised of this as and when required.
You can find more information about the fees for estate services on our fees page.
What might the outcome of your enquiry be?
There could be several outcomes, including:
- The land or property is retained by the Council
- The land or property is offered as a tenancy
- The land or property is sold - either to you, or on the open market
- Request for access if granted or refused
How long will the investigation take?
Due to the high number of enquiries, this process can take a long time. To successfully answer your enquiry, there may also be a lot of information to gather and consultations we may need to complete.
We try to handle all enquiries as quickly as possible.
