Most alterations to business premises need planning permission. This includes:
- all shop and office extensions
- alterations to shop fronts
- external security shutters or grilles
Changing the use of your building or land may also need permission.
Further guidance on when is permission required? On GOV.UK.
If planning permission is required, find out how to submit a planning application. You may also want to apply for pre-application advice for businesses.
Advertisements and signs
New signs/advertisements are covered by a separate regime, similar to planning, called advertisement consent. Consent is not required in all cases.
