Housing Land Supply
Current Total Supply of Land for New Housing Development
The Council maintains a schedule of all land committed and under development for new housing across the Borough - recorded site by site and area by area and with Borough summary tables of the total available supply.
The schedule is updated every 6 months in April and October and the latest version can be downloaded and viewed using the link below:

Deliverable Supply of Land for New Housing Development
An initial assessment of the potential deliverable five year supply of development land that could be drawn from the recorded commitments was undertaken in July 2007. The Report can be downloaded and viewed using the link below:
Report for Housing Five Year Supply
This initial assessment indicated that a total of some 3,172 new dwellings of the recorded commitments could be brought forward for development over the five years between April 2007 and March 2012.
Net of the dwellings requiring clearance to accommodate the new dwellings to be brought forward, the potential supply amounted to some 2,878 dwellings.
In terms of the distribution of this deliverable supply - some 1,322 dwellings (1,105 net of dwellings to be cleared) were located in the south of the Borough (the part to the south of the River Mersey) and 1,850 (1,773 net of dwellings to be cleared) in the north - in round terms a 40%:60% south/north potential supply distribution.
In terms of the gross new housing development requirement set for the Borough in the Regional Spatial Strategy (both published and draft/proposed revised) and the Trafford UDP, the total deliverable supply (3,172 dwellings) can be summarised as follows:
March 2003 published RSS/June 2006 adopted Trafford UDP = 2.05 times the 1,550 dwelling requirement
January 2006 Draft Revised RSS/June 2006 adopted Trafford UDP = 1.35 times the 2,350 dwelling requirement
March 2008 Proposed Revised RSS/June 2006 adopted Trafford UDP = 1.03 times the 3,090 dwelling requirement
To comply with updated advice the Council now carries out an annual Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). The latest SHLAA report can be downloaded and viewed using the link below:
