Needle exchange

If you find a needle

There are a number of hazards associated with handling these items and, if found, you should contact Trafford Council to have them safely removed and disposed of.

You should not to pick up needles, unless it poses an immediate danger to you or other residents.

Any needles, or syringes, etc. found on educational premises (e.g., schools, nurseries, etc.) during working hours should be reported immediately to the premises directly where staff on site are trained to deal with such items.

Needle exchange

Sharing needles can increase your chances of contracting a blood-borne virus (BBV) such as HIV or hepatitis. To reduce the risk of spreading these or other illnesses, some local pharmacies operate a needle exchange system. This is where needle/syringe users can swap used needles for a clean and sterile injecting equipment pack.

You can find a list of pharmacies that provide this service on the Trafford Service Directory.
