Single Person's Discount review

Trafford Council is currently undergoing a review of all Council Tax accounts where the resident is receiving a 25% discount on their Council Tax. Single Person Discount (SPD) is claimed when an adult is the sole adult occupant of the property. Whilst we are aware that most residents are claiming the discount appropriately, there are some people who may be claiming the discount incorrectly. These residents may not have reported a change in their household circumstances and are receiving the discount when they are no longer entitled to it. The Single Person Discount review is a scheme used to detect those who are claiming a discount that they are no longer eligible for.

More about the SPD review

We will shortly be sending those residents receiving SPD a letter asking for them to confirm their current household circumstances. Not only will this be a way of keeping our records up to date it will also be a way of allowing our residents to notify us if there has been a change in their circumstances.

Please confirm your current details by completing the Single Person's Discount review online form. To access your form you will need to enter your unique PIN number. You can find this PIN number on the letter we have sent to you.

Please note: If you do not respond to our letter you will have your SPD removed and further investigations may be undertaken. This will result in a revised Council Tax bill being issued which may be backdated to the date that the change in circumstances took place.

If you have any questions regarding the form or require further information, please access the frequently asked questions page.

Trafford Council is dedicated to protecting the public purse and detecting fraud. We take Council Tax Fraud very seriously and we are very pro-active in confirming all entitlements to discounts. We would like to thank our residents for their on-going cooperation throughout this exercise
