All records for the five cemeteries and crematorium managed by Trafford Council (Greater Manchester) are now available on the specialist family history website Deceased Online.
The data available for Trafford comprises nearly 200,000 burial and cremation records featuring:
- Digital scans of original registers
- Computerised records for later burials and cremations
- Interment details indicating all those buried in each grave
- Maps providing the section in the cemetery where each burial is located
Trafford Council is the 2nd authority in Greater Manchester to digitise and upload all of its burial and cremation records to the Deceased Online website. The Trafford sites with records now available are: Dunham Lawn, Hale (Altrincham), Sale (Brooklands), Stretford and Urmston cemeteries together with Altrincham Crematorium.
Deceased Online is the only website portal dedicated to providing detailed statutory burial and cremation records. Launched four years ago, its database is growing rapidly and features records from local authorities, private cemeteries and crematoria. Data on the Deceased Online website covers many areas from North Scotland down to South Devon including approximately 100 councils with data either on the website or in preparation.
Users of the website are able to search the website at no cost; if they do find documents for the person for whom they're searching, they pay a small to fee to view and/or download these. As the records are digitized, the original old and fragile registers and documents can be archived and safely conserved.
This means that the data are easily accessible both for the local community, nationally and globally (Deceased Online has users in 84 countries) meaning that ancestors and family historians are able to search for records easily from wherever they have online computer access.
