Under the Marriage Act 1994, Marriage and Civil Partnerhsip Ceremonies may be solemnized in hotels, stately homes and historic buildings which have been licensed by the Local Authority.
A marriage or civil partnership can take place in any licensed venue in England or Wales. A Superintendent Registrar and a Registrar must be present at the marriage. Fees are payable in advance for their attendance. In order to ensure that they will be available to attend at your chosen date and time, you should contact the relevant Register Office before you make a booking with the venue.
There can be no religious content to this type of marriage, however enhancements may be made and you should discuss the form of the ceremony with the Superintendent Registrar, before the Wedding day.
Licensing a building as an approved premises for marriage and civil partnership ceremonies
